Private Joys is a group of friends brought together by a love of soulful music. Soulful for us is a feeling an emotional intensity. Versed in a range of styles we didn’t want to be confined by one. Our music is a journey through soul, funk, reggae and blues enthused with jazz flava.
We celebrate the musicians that inspired us – our private joys Curtis Mayfield, Gill Scott Heron, Gilberto Gil, the Crusaders, Lord Kitchener – while avoiding imitation. Play and experimentation is our raison d ‘etre.
Our musical eclecticism is matched by our energy. Expect chin stroking moments, ska dancing, reggae skanking, salsa movements and back again. By the end of the evening we’ll make our private joys will become your joys.
